Let's Make Peace During Ramadan

Ramadan is a holy month for all muslim around the world. It is a very special month, when all muslim fasting during the day and have tarawih prayer after isya. I always love the ambience Ramadan could bring, it feels peaceful.

However nowadays, I hardly feel those peaceful feeling again in Ramadan. Why? Because I notice and read so many controversy during Ramadan.

Start making peace at home with your family (dok.pribadi)

It begin with difference when will Ramadan start. There are two main muslim organization in Indonesia, with their followers. Few years back, those two decided start Ramadan differently and also when Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated. It really feels not good, knowing my brother or sister may have their celebration on different day than me. And i'm sure, they also feels the same.

Thankfully this year, all muslim in Indonesia doesn't have to face it again. Everyone start fasting on the same day and will celebrate Eid al-Fitr also the same day.

But, in the middle of this Ramadan, another controversy come along. It spreads on mainstream media and also social media. It is about a woman who sell food in the middle of the day during Ramadan and her food was seized by the authority officers.

A lot of people reacted, or even angry. There are people who take side to the woman who sell food. The supporter even raised money for that woman, up to hundreds million rupiahs. While the other side, said that the woman is wrong and breaking the rule of local authority, therefore she has to take the punishment.

And it's not even close to an end until now. There are a lot of articles on mainstream media an numerous notes and status in social media, discussing about it from many aspect. Some said the people who raised money is wrong because the woman is actually rich and her husband is involved with gambling. The rest is talking about possibility this case is an act of weaken the rules of islam, including muslim, and so on.

The truth is, I get sick of it. I don't want to take side about the case. I know as a muslim, I have obligation to fast during Ramadan and I will not be bothered by food seller. Yes, I also notice, some parents are afraid their children and teen who still learning to fast, will tempted by food seller open during the day. But on the other side, Indonesia is also have non muslim, who do not fast and have rights to eat.

I just hope everything will settle down nicely. That eventually, everyone understand their rights and obligation respectively. I really miss those peaceful month during Ramadan before celebrating Eid al-Fitr. I hope two weeks ahead as we enter the end of Ramadan this year, it will be more peaceful.

So, happy fasting for all muslim brothers and sisters. May all people around the world feels blessed on this holy month Ramadan.
